A Sweet Reminiscence

I think we are possibly becoming the dreaded "foodies".  We love trying new foods, and will take a bite of almost anything. Jordan recently posted that he knows I'm the right girl for him because I would never say no when he suggests we eat more pastries.  Romantic much?  Trying different types of food from places that we visit is at least half the experience, and good food is always good to reminisce about... For both Jordan and I dessert is the highlight of any meal, so tonight we tried ranking the top five best desserts we tried during 2015.

Before we get into the top 5, there are a few honorable mention desserts that unfortunately didn't make the cut that deserve to be mentioned; they are: Kaiser Schmarren in Innsbruck, Nutella Lángos is Budapest Papanași in Bucharest, and Ovocé Kendlíky in Prague

Okay now back to our top 5...

#5: Banana Cream Pie at The Apple Pan
The banana cream pie from The Apple Pan is a universally adored classic I think.  It's impossible to take a bite and not have your day become just a little better, even if you don't have a sweet tooth. They know exactly how to make a soft crumbling crust, sweet yellow custard, firm banana slices and mellow soothing cream taste pretty much like a slice of perfection.  Try and only have one bite, I dare you.
#4: Gelato at Gelateria Vernazza
There was no such thing as one scoop of gelato on our trip to Italy.  We found some of the best gelato at Gelateria Vernazza in Cinque Terra. It's possible that our palates were influenced by hiking across a mountain in the hot sun to get there... but we like to think its the best gelato in all of Italy.
#3: Cannoli at Carabe
In Florence is where you will find our third pick.  Don't be confused if you go to Carabe and all you see is gelato when you enter.  The owner makes an amazing cannoli upon request, that way they are fresh and the shells stay nice and crisp.  He uses real ricotta and it is delizioso!
#2: Chocolate Souffle at the Beverly Hills Hotel
One of the most beautiful chocolate souffles out there.  The Polo Lounge has perfected it.  Although I love to hear their special of the day, whether it be peanut butter, red velvet or pistachio, I always seem to go with the classic chocolate.  The thin disk of warm chocolate on top, and the vanilla creme sauce is the icing on the cake.
#1: Tarte Tatin at Bigot
The famous dessert of the Loire Valley was our favorite of 2015: Tarte Tatin.  We found this well known delicacy in it's finest form at Bigot.  We are HUGE chocolate fans but we would take this dessert any day of the week.  The crust is nice and buttery, the apples are baked to perfection (sweet and not soggy) and the warm vanilla ice cream and whipped creme on top makes it all the better.

I'm surprised our blood sugar is able to stay level after all of the sweets we have consumed this year. We have started off 2016 with some amazing desserts and  I am looking forward to rating the top 5 at the end of the year.  If you have any suggestions on a dessert we should try, please contact us, we would love to try it! This was a "sweet" reminiscence!
