Majorca, Spain

Spring in Germany has been a little bit of a disappointment weather wise, and we needed a little Vitamin-D over here, so we took a little weekend getaway to the sun-kissed Balearic Islands of Spain for the perfect location for some rest and relaxation in...
We couldn't have asked for more perfect Airbnb for our weekend away! The location was great, a step away from big attractions, and close to Bus 3 for taking to the beach! We were also accommodated for a late check out (6pm...almost unheard of!) which was a bonus!
Palma is vibrant and authentic.  In the mornings the streets were so labyrinth-like, I love the old city!
Here we are ready to explore...and eat!
For breakfast each morning we went to Ca'n Juan De S'aigo for a traditional breakfast of the ensaimada-a flakey puff pastry.  We tried the plain, the chocolate filled, and the custard covered... the plain and custard covered were our favorites (not enough chocolate to be a winner).
We did a majority of local sight seeing the first day of our trip, so that we could enjoy the white sandy beaches for a few days.  In the old city we went to the Museu d'Art Espanyol Contemporani (which was FREE!) to check out some from 20th-century artists up until present day.  This was our favorite piece: an interpretation of Diego Velázquez Las Meninas.  It is a little Andy Warhol like no?
We took a walk around the Plaza Major before heading closer to the water.  It seems as though all of the Spanish cities we have gone to all have a major plaza.
Majorca hosts the biggest marina of the Mediterranean sea, and the best preserved medieval walls of any harbor city in Europe.
Great walls, great views, great guy...calls for a great time!
We went into the Palau March Museu, which was home of the wealthy March family. The sculptures outside of the house were very impressive:
I can't tell who is stronger, this Auguste Rodin sculpture, or Jordan...
The inside of the house had an amazing nativity scene with 1,000's of characters, lots of interesting Dali art, and beautiful furniture.
Our last city stop was the city's major architectural landmark: Palma Cathedral Le Seu. It is large in scale, and undoubtably beautiful!
 The inside has stunning stained glass, and predominantly Gothic architecture.
From the Old City we were able to take Bus 3 to the beautiful beaches.  For lunch everyday, we would stop at a local sandwich shop to grab some Iberian ham sandwiches to eat with our toes in the sand.  It was a blissful view for lunch:
On the first day we went to Cala Major beach.  The water and weather could not have been more perfect!
 Vit-D...Just what the doctor prescribed
The beaches get better and better, the next day we went to Illetas for more rest and relaxation: The water was unbelievable, like swimming in a glass swimming pool.
 I am such a pisces, the water just makes me so happy!
 I think we both enjoyed this beach, A LOT!
The third beach we made it to was Cala Comtesa Beach.  There was a cool island out in the distance that I got talked into swimming to... This pregnant lady will do almost anything for two scoops of ice cream!
Our dinners of delicious tapas in Majorca are not to go unrecognized! We have two recommendations on places to eat tapas, the first: Bar Espana.  The food was so delicious that we ate twice- it was so good.  Hot tapas are served here after 8, but we wouldn't recommend going too late or you won't find a place to sit.  We really liked their pinchos:

 //Miniburger de Ternera con queso de Cabra y huevo//
(mini veal burger with goat cheese and baby quail egg)
//Solomillo con Foie y Cebolla Confitafa//
(sirloin steak with foie gras and caramelized onions)
We also went to Bar Dia for delicious tapas, and we feasted!  Special thanks to my photographer/paparazzi for taking a picture of me in my prime; photo credit: Jordan Hatch here!
Our recommendations:

//Garlic Shrimp//
The best we have ever had actually!
Make sure to order some bread so you can dip it in the left over garlic and oil!
// Fried Calamari//
//Bacon Wrapped Dates//
//Seranno Ham with Manchego Cheese//
And with full bellies we hoped on Bus #5 back to the airport.  We had a great trip to Majorca, and Spain is quickly becoming one of our favorite countries to explore.  Onto the next place, just a week away!
