Bern, Switzerland

In Switzerland, a country where there are so many beautiful places to visit,  the city of Bern is another place to add to a travel list!
The location of Bern is picturesque, surrounded by the Aare river with views of the Alps...and you better believe that if there is a river in Bern, and the weather is warm, we will want get our toes wet. We got a great view of the Nydeggbrücke Bridge, which goes from the Bärengarben into the old city. Ahh the water was so refreshing!
At this point Jordan is saying to me, "Morg, I think I'm going to jump in"...okay Jord, later in the blogpost!
In 1190 the founders of Bern went hunting and decided they would name the city after the first animal they caught.  The animal was a bear, and a bear in German in this cities dialect is "Bern".  Believe it or not, the bears are still in the city, and they put them in a habitat right by the water.
I loved the walk into town...
We went to münsterplattform park, which provided even more beautiful views, in fact, I would like a house right here, with the terrace and all.
Bern is also known as the city of fountains.  The city has over 100 fountains, eleven of which retain original allegorical figures.  As we walked down Bärenplatz, we got to see lots of fountains.
Walking through the center of the city we found the clock tower, known as Zytgloggle.  The clock has moving figures, including none other than the famous bears!  If you're curious which zodiac sign the calendar is in, no fear, just check out the clock.
Legend had it that Albert Einstein, who didn't live far from the clock, was watching the buses coming round the tower and wondered what would happen to them if they moved at the speed of light...this legend to his theory of relativity, and the Swiss like to think was started here.  We went to see his house at Kramgasse 49 where Einstein lived from 1903 to 1905.
The cathedral in Bern has as great reminder of what hell might be like if you don't do the right thing in this life. What a frightening scenes! Can you spot the devil here? Ouch!
We loved walking around, the buildings were so beautiful!
We can tolerate dry heat pretty well, but humidity on top of heat is a game changer.  Remember when Jordan asked if he could go into the Aare River?  Well he had his chance (and I was sad I forgot my bathing suit).  Check out that current...pretty fast!
You can't beat 58 degree water; REFRESHING!
We showered up, ate a yummy kebab, and took a night stroll.  I love the river as the sun sets:
The city is very quiet at night, all the people disappeared, but man it was pretty.
The last photo-op before we head onto our next destination...until tomorrow!
