Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic

Hello! After spending a few days in Prague with family we took a two hour drive to Karlovy Vary, the second largest tourist site in the Czech Republic. Karlovy Vary attracts many wealthy Europeans who come to enjoy a variety of different spa treatments like massages, herbal treatments and alternative therapies.

Every day there is a new display of the date in fresh flowers at the Flower Bench.

Karlovy Vary has "healing" hot springs that cure specific ailments. Traditionally, you drink the water in a 'skalni pramen', a porcelain cup made and designed for drinking the thermal water. Before going to the fountains to have a sip there are plenty of vendors where you can pick up a cup to fit your style.

The mineral waters were very salty and tasted a lot like copper!
Some of the waters are as warm as 150 degrees fahrenheit!
Check out what Larry thought of the water...

We visited to the Grandehotel Pupp.  This is where some scenes from James Bond Casino Royale (sorry it wasn't really filmed in Montenegro) were filmed.
The top photo is from Casino Royale
The hotel once catered to rich and famous Europeans, and it has one of the towns finest restaurants-The Grand.  When at such a grand hotel we had to eat at The Grand.
The food was really delicious!
No trip to a spa-town is complete without a spa wafer filled with chocolate!
I love the architecture and bright contrasting colors on beautiful buildings.  Karlovy Vary was as elegant and picturesque as I imagined.
We had a great time together, and look forward to coming back soon.

  1. Hopefully all your aches and pains were washed away by drinking from the fountains.
Karlovy Vary was one our favorite cities to explore. We did a short hike there that provided a spectacular view of the city and its beautiful buildings.
